When you think about mental health care, what comes to mind? For many, it’s therapy sessions, maybe medication, or a mix of both. And don’t get me wrong—those tools are life-changing for so many people. But they’re not the only way to support your mental well-being. Let me introduce you to integrative mental health care, a holistic approach that’s all about nurturing your mind, body, and spirit to help you feel your best.

At Thoughtful Therapies LLC, I’ve always believed in meeting people where they are. Up until now, we’ve been a virtual, insurance-based mental health practice focusing on "standard mental health services" like therapy and medication management. But I’m thrilled to share that we’re making a big change. Thoughtful Therapies LLC is transitioning to a private pay model, with the option to submit claims for reimbursement through Reimbursify. Why the shift? Because it’s time to bring integrative care into the mix—allowing Thoughtful Therapies LLC to offer even more personalized and meaningful support tailored just for you.

So, let’s take a look into what integrative mental health care is, who it’s for, and how it could help you thrive.

What Is Integrative Mental Health Care?

Integrative mental health care takes a “whole-person” approach, blending tried-and-true methods like therapy and medication with complementary practices that support every part of you. It’s not just about managing symptoms; it’s about creating balance and helping you feel good from the inside out.

Here’s how it works:

  • Your Physical Health Matters: How you eat, sleep, and move can play a huge role in how you feel mentally and emotionally.

  • Emotions Are Front and Center: Stress, relationships, and emotional well-being are key to the bigger picture.

  • Spiritual Health Counts, Too: For some, this might mean mindfulness or meditation; for others, it’s connecting with nature or exploring a sense of purpose.

What’s amazing about integrative care is how personalized it is. Together, we’d explore options that fit your needs and comfort level. Some examples include:

  • Nutrition counseling or adding nutraceuticals

  • Yoga or movement therapy

  • Art therapy (no art skills needed!)

  • Mindfulness and meditation practices

  • Aromatherapy

The goal is to look at the bigger picture of your health—mind, body, and soul—and find what truly helps you feel like you.

What Are Nutraceuticals, and Why Are They Important?

Nutraceuticals are substances that provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Think of them as the bridge between food and medicine. They include:

  • Vitamins and Minerals: Like magnesium for stress or vitamin D for mood support.

  • Herbal Supplements: Such as ashwagandha, which may help with stress and anxiety, or St. John’s wort for mild depression.

  • Probiotics: Essential for gut health, which is deeply connected to mental well-being.

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil, known for their brain-boosting and mood-regulating properties.

Nutraceuticals are gaining popularity in mental health care because they offer a natural, targeted way to support brain health and emotional balance. Research has shown that nutrients like omega-3s and magnesium can improve symptoms of anxiety and depression.

In the integrative model, nutraceuticals aren’t a replacement for therapy or medication—they’re a complement.

Why It Works: The Science Behind Integrative Mental Health Care

This approach isn’t just about good vibes; it’s backed by solid research. For example:

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: Studies show that mindfulness can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep, and even lower inflammation (science loves mindfulness!).

  • Nutrition: Your gut and brain are in constant communication. Diets rich in whole, nutrient-dense foods and the right supplements can reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.

  • Exercise: Moving your body is one of the best ways to boost your mood and ease anxiety.

  • Nutraceuticals: Evidence supports the role of omega-3s, probiotics, and certain herbs in reducing inflammation and improving mental health outcomes.

Integrative mental health care brings the best of standard treatments—like therapy and medication—together with wellness practices often seen in osteopathic or naturopathic medicine. The result? A truly comprehensive approach that treats the whole you.

Who Is Integrative Mental Health Care For?

Honestly? Pretty much anyone. But let me break it down a little more. Integrative care might be just what you’re looking for if:

1. You’re Overwhelmed and Burnt Out

If stress feels like it’s running the show in your life, integrative practices like mindfulness or yoga could help you find that much-needed calm.

2. You’re Navigating Anxiety or Depression

While therapy and medication are powerful tools, adding things like meditation, acupuncture, or even a fresh look at your diet can take your healing to the next level.

3. You’re Living with Chronic Illness or Pain

Your mental health and physical health are so connected. When you’re dealing with ongoing physical challenges, practices like gentle movement or stress-reduction techniques can make a big difference.

4. You Want to Boost Your Overall Well-Being

Maybe you’re not in a mental health crisis, but you’d like to feel more resilient, more grounded, and just...better. Integrative care can help with that.

5. You’re Looking for Alternatives to Medication

Whether it’s due to side effects or personal preference, integrative care can provide additional ways to support your mental health without relying solely on medication.

  • Nutrition: Did you know your gut health and mental health are linked? Diets like the Mediterranean diet—think lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and healthy fats—have been shown to reduce the risk of depression.

  • Exercise: Moving your body is one of the best ways to boost your mood and ease anxiety.

  • Art Therapy: Engaging in creative activities like painting or drawing has been shown to lower stress, enhance emotional expression, and promote relaxation.

How Thoughtful Therapies LLC Is Growing

At Thoughtful Therapies LLC, my focus has always been on creating a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and empowered. While I’m currently offering traditional services like therapy and coaching, I’m dreaming big about ways to integrate holistic approaches into our care. Here’s what might be coming:

1. Mindfulness Coaching

Mindfulness is already a part of what I do, but I’d love to make it even more central. Imagine guided meditations, breathing exercises, and other tools to help you stay present and grounded.

2. Workshops and Classes

I’m exploring the idea of hosting workshops on topics like stress management, nutrition for mental health, and movement-based therapies like yoga or tai chi. Doesn’t that sound like a breath of fresh air?

3. Collaborating with Complementary Practitioners

No one person has all the answers, which is why I’m looking into building a network of trusted professionals in areas like nutrition, acupuncture, artists, and fitness. That way, I can offer referrals and resources tailored to your needs.

Why Choose Thoughtful Therapies LLC?

Choosing a mental health provider is personal, and it’s so important to find someone you connect with. Here’s what you can expect from me:
